Toyota Dream Car Art Contest: Inspiring Young Indonesians to Dream Big

Jakarta, 24 June 2025 – The 18th Toyota Dream Car Art Contest (TDCAC), themed Inspire the World with Your Dream, has concluded with a vibrant celebration of creativity, announcing its winners in Indonesia. Organized by PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM), this global drawing competition invited Indonesian children to design innovative, colorful, and out-of-the-box mobility solutions for a better future. From September 2024, thousands of young artists from Aceh to Papua submitted their imaginative designs, with the top three winners from each category now set to represent Indonesia on the global stage.

Vice President Director of TAM, Henry Tanoto, highlighted the contest’s impact: “Now in its 18th year, TDCAC is a cornerstone of Toyota Indonesia’s CSR pillar, Toyota Berbagi Ilmu, focused on education. By collaborating with schools, partners, and Toyota dealerships across nearly all Indonesian provinces, we’ve made this competition inclusive, attracting diverse talents nationwide.”

A Platform for Future Innovators

Aligned with Toyota’s vision of Creating Mobility for All and mission of Producing Happiness for All, TDCAC encourages children to envision groundbreaking mobility solutions. Since its inception in 2004, the contest has inspired over 8 million participants globally. In Indonesia, this year’s edition saw 7,500 entries from over 30 provinces, a rise from 7,000 in 2023, showcasing growing enthusiasm among young creatives.

The contest, themed Inspire the World with Your Dream!, urged participants to address social and environmental challenges through their designs. From emotion-sensing cars to bacteria-capturing vehicles, the entries reflected bold ideas for sustainable futures. The judging panel, including renowned illustrator Ario Anindito and child psychologist Saskhya Aulia Prima, selected winners based on creativity, uniqueness, and societal relevance.

Nationwide Engagement and Dealer Support

TDCAC’s inclusivity stems from Toyota’s vast dealership network, with 21 dealer groups and 165 branches amplifying the contest’s reach. Dealerships like Auto2000, Tunas Toyota, and Kalla Toyota hosted local competitions, enabling broader participation, especially in areas with limited online access. This grassroots approach ensured children from diverse backgrounds could join, fostering creativity and community engagement.

The prelude event in Banda Aceh, hosted with Dunia Barusa, marked the contest’s launch with activities like Fun Education workshops and the Inspiring Art Competition. These initiatives nurtured creativity while promoting empathy and environmental awareness. Additionally, community empowerment programs, including teacher workshops, strengthened local support for young talents.

Celebrating Young Visionaries

The winners, announced across three age categories, showcased remarkable ingenuity:

  • Under 8 Years: Kalino Hakham Hansen (7, Jakarta) won with an “Emotion-Sensing Compass Car.”
  • Ages 8–11: Ichiro Noor Alexi (9, Banjarbaru) impressed with a “Soil Fertility Enhancing Car.”

Winners received educational grants, trophies, and a chance to compete globally in Japan against participants from over 75 countries.

A Legacy of Inspiration

TAM President Director Hiroyuki Ueda celebrated last year’s global success, where Indonesia’s Damion Deven won the Grand Prize in the 12–15 age category. “This achievement reflects the incredible potential of Indonesian youth. TDCAC is our commitment to fostering inclusive, sustainable mobility through creativity,” Ueda said.
