Indonesian Youth Embrace Angklung at AHM School Camp 2025

Bandung, 23 June 2025 – In a vibrant celebration of Indonesian heritage, PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM) hosted the School Camp 2025 on June 20-21 at Saung Angklung Udjo (SAU), a renowned cultural hub in West Java. The event brought together 42 students and teachers from AHM’s Sekolah Satu Hati (SSH) program in Jakarta and West Java to preserve and promote the traditional art of angklung, a UNESCO-recognized bamboo musical instrument.

Titled “Generasi Muda Beraksi, Angklung Sekolah Satu Hati Menginspirasi” (Youth in Action, Sekolah Satu Hati Angklung Inspires), the camp aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of angklung’s cultural significance. Guided by SAU’s cultural experts and artisans, students explored the intricate process of crafting angklung, from selecting bamboo to shaping rattan bindings that produce its distinctive diatonic and pentatonic tones. Diatonic angklung, used by SSH schools, features a seven-note chromatic scale, while pentatonic angklung reflects Sundanese ethnic traditions with a five-note scale.

Participants also honed their angklung-playing techniques and learned public speaking skills to become cultural ambassadors, promoting this cherished art form in public spaces. The camp blended hands-on learning with digital literacy, encouraging students to leverage social media to share angklung’s beauty with a global audience.

Ahmad Muhibbuddin, AHM’s General Manager of Corporate Communication, emphasized the company’s commitment to cultural preservation since 2014. “We’re thrilled to see the enthusiasm from students and teachers in Jakarta and West Java. Through our Synergy for the Nation spirit, we collaborate to elevate angklung as a cultural treasure,” he said.

The camp involved students from schools like SDN Sunter Agung 13 Pagi, SMAN 13, SMAN 80, SMK Hang Tuah 1, and SMP Hang Tuah 3 in Jakarta, alongside SMP Nassa, SMK Telekomunikasi Telesandi, and SMAN 2 Cikampek in West Java. By partnering with SAU, AHM continues to nurture musical talent and ensure angklung’s legacy endures, inspiring a new generation to celebrate Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage.
